Lettuce is eaten raw in salads and cooked with meat. It is a delicate vegetable due to its high water content. After harvest it is kept for a short time. It should be kept away from fruits such as apples, bananas and pears, because they produce ethylene and will blacken its leaves.
To keep it in good condition for up to 10 days, follow the next steps!
- Cut your lettuce leaf by leaf and wash them well under running water.
- Fill a bowl with cold water, add a little vinegar and leave the leaves for about 10 minutes.
- Remove them from the water and place them in a colander to drain.
- Gently wrap each sheet with kitchen paper or better yet with a cotton towel.
- Put them in tapers or in special food bags that close airtight.
- Store them in the refrigerator and for the next few days they will be kept fresh and crunchy like the first day.
