Juniperus is a coniferous, evergreen, broadleaf shrub. It reaches 0,20-0,80 meters in height and 1,20-1,80 meters in width.

Leaves

Its leaves are needle-shaped, triangular, cruciform opposite. The color of its foliage is blue.

Fruit

Its fruits are spherical cones, brown in color and up to 4 cm in diameter.

Terrain

It grows satisfactorily in all types of soil, without particular problems. A necessary condition is that the soil has good drainage. It prefers sandy soils, rich in nutrients.

Position

Prefers sunny positions protected from strong or hot wind.

Watering

It has moderate water requirements, except in the summer months when you can increase its watering. In winter we water about every 10 days. In summer 3 to 4 times a week. In spring and autumn 1 to 2 times a week.

Lubrication

Apply the fertilizer in spring and summer (once a month). You can use either a complete, granular fertilizer by spreading it on the soil between the plants and then watering well, or by dissolving a water-soluble fertilizer in the watering can.

Durability

It thrives in places with mild winters and can withstand cold and low temperatures up to - 18ο C. Caution is required with strong winds. Suitable for planting in areas with heavy air pollution. It withstands coastal areas.

Pruning

It is necessary to remove dried and diseased shoots in early spring. We apply light shaping pruning of the crown to maintain its shape.

Diseases and enemies

Juniper is a resistant plant to disease and insect attacks. Its most common enemy is coccoid infestation.

It is also often affected by fungal diseases. The herbivorous fungus infects the root and the drying of the plants is observed starting from the inside of the branches to the outside.
