The Laurel cherry (Prunus laurocerasus) is an evergreen shrub and belongs to their family Rosaceae. It comes from Southeastern Europe. Its name refers to the resemblance of its foliage to that of Daphne (Laurus nobilis).
Plant description
Its leaves are smooth and large, up to 15 cm long. Its flowers are small, white and fragrant. They grow in botany inflorescences. Flowering begins in March to April and lasts almost a month. The fruits appear in early autumn. They are small, round, glossy with a dark purple to black color.
Plant care
Location: It grows in soils rich in organic matter, light and with good drainage. It is a suitable shrub for coastal areas.
Stamina: It is resistant to high temperatures, drought and very low winter temperatures.
Watering: It needs moderate watering, especially in the hot summer months, but also the first time until it settles in place.
Pruning: In the spring, the dry shoots must be removed and the shape of the plant must be formed.
