Plant description

The chlorophyll is an evergreen tropical houseplant native to South Africa. It is very common because it does not need any special care and you can easily see it growing outdoors as long as mild conditions prevail. It has oblong bicolor leaves, green and beige, 20-40 cm long and is ideal for hanging pots and baskets. But its main advantage is that it cleans the atmosphere of substances harmful to health, leaving our space free of daily pollutants.

Development conditions

Ideal places for its growth are bright or semi-shaded, but the hot summer sun in direct contact with them can cause burns on the leaves. The suitable temperature for chlorophyte is around 10 to 20°C and if the temperature drops below 7°C it will not have the desired growth. In winter it is good to protect it from the cold or to move it indoors where there are no cold air currents.

What care does chlorophyte need?

The chlorophyll has more water needs than other indoor plants. Water more often, especially during the summer. Be careful, however, that the soil is not too wet and that its roots rot.

It is good to apply a liquid fertilizer for green plants every 2 weeks during the spring and autumn period when the plant develops its new vegetation. We will transplant our chlorophyll when its roots appear on the soil surface and we will use light indoor soil or mixed with peat soil.

Enemies and diseases

The main enemies that infect the chlorophyll are the aphids that we find in the leaves and the pseudococcus.

Tip !!

Prefer to spray the leaves especially in dry conditions, to hydrate and create a moist environment.
