Deciduous tree, fast growing with a height of up to 20 m, and leaves that in autumn take on shades of red. Very resistant to cold and winds, prefers fertile and slightly acidic soils. It has a spherical crown shape, which reaches a diameter of 10 m. Its trunk is cylindrical, brown-silver in color and reaches a diameter of 50-70 cm. The leaves are serrated or lobed, 5-10 cm long and 3-7 cm wide, light green on the upper surface. It blooms in early spring before the foliage develops, and the flowers are hanging up to 20 cm long. The flowers then form elongated seeds 2-3 cm long, which fall from the tree in autumn or remain on the tree throughout the winter (characteristic of the tree). It has no special soil requirements, but prefers non-acidic soils and requires sunshine. It is a hard tree and very resistant to cold and winds, while it does not thrive in places with very hot climates or in coastal areas. It is used for shading and ornamental purposes in squares, parks and sidewalks, while it is found in residential yards and woods.
