Seflera

Common Name: Seflera
Origin: Malaysia

Seflera is a perennial, evergreen evergreen plant native to Malaysia. It has a relatively slow growth but as it grows it takes the form of a tree and can reach a height of over 5 meters in suitable conditions.

Leaves

Its leaves are compound, have the shape of the palm and each one consists of 7-9 leaflets with a length of 9-20 cm and a width of 4-10 cm.

Terrain

Its soil must be light, with a high content of peat and have good drainage.

Position

It needs enough light to grow but not direct light. Especially during the hot periods of the year, it should not be exposed to direct sunlight through windows (which raise the sun's temperature even more) or on your balcony because its leaves will burn.

Watering

Its watering should be done according to its size. The bigger the plant, the more water it needs, but be careful that its soil is not already wet when you water again. In the winter we moderate the watering since the plant will not be in a growth period.

Tip:

It is a good idea to clean the sefflera leaves as often as you can with a soft cloth moistened with warm water to remove dust and make it easier for the leaves to breathe.

Lubrication

Its fertilization can be done in all seasons from once a month, either in liquid or solid form. In case we have the shefflera outdoors, we reduce the frequency of fertilization in winter and summer. Also, add some iron to prevent yellowing of the leaves and keep their green color.

Durability

It is sensitive to very low winter temperatures and may cause extensive leaf loss. It does not react well to changes in lighting conditions and position in general.

Pruning

Pruning is more like topping since the tops of the shoots are essentially cut off to allow lateral shoots to grow and the plant to have a more compact and uniform growth. S

at the base of the plant, next to the central trunk, offshoots usually grow. These offshoots must be removed to ensure better ventilation at the base of the plant, which will favor proper growth.

Enemies and Diseases

Its most common enemy is the coccoids that cause cotton blight.
