Iron is vital for plants as it is essential for the synthesis of chlorophyll. It is generally difficult to absorb by plants. The roots can take it only in certain forms and under suitable conditions. The absorbency of iron is highly dependent on pH. Usually in acidic topsoils there is enough iron in absorbable form.

Excessive iron lubrication gives the opposite results from the desired, so we must be very careful!

Excess iron can have the following effects:

  • The leaves acquire a dark, green-blue color reminiscent of phosphorus P deficiency.
  • There is a sharp decrease in the growth of the top of the leaves and the root system.
  • The roots take on a brown discoloration.
  • These symptoms are most pronounced in acidic soils.
