Fescue

Common Name: Fescue
Origin: Europe

It is an annual and perennial grassy plant with elongated very thin leaves and conical inflorescences in summer. It has blue-grey foliage and the maximum height and girth it reaches is 40cm. It is grown mainly for its beautiful blue foliage.

Flowers

Its flowers are unigeneous, dense, in spherical inflorescence heads on an apical, thin and long axis. The flowers are light green. Flowering is observed during the months of June and July.

Terrain

It has no particular soil requirements, although it prefers normal and not very rich soils. It is drought tolerant but also does very well in moist, well-drained soils.

Position

Prefers sunny positions but can also tolerate partial shade. It also shows great resistance to high summer temperatures, as long as it has sufficient humidity.

Watering

It needs moderate watering about 2 times a week. But it needs larger amounts of water every 2-3 days mainly until it is installed in a garden or in periods of intense drought.

Lubrication

Fertilize with a complete granular preparation once in early spring and once in late autumn to maintain vigor and improve its growth.

Durability

It withstands the high temperatures of summer and the low temperatures of winter up to -20ºC. It is a plant resistant to heat, strong winds and air pollution.

Pruning

Pruned in early spring for lush foliage.

Enemies and Diseases

It is a hardy plant and is not affected by diseases.

It is suitable for

    • The creation of a border in flower beds
    • On the lawn to add interest and movement to the garden.
    • Forms beautiful clusters.
