Pachira (Pachira Aquatica), also known as the "Money Tree" or Guyana Chestnut is an evergreen, hardy indoor tree. In its natural environment, its height exceeds 10 meters and produces impressive white flowers. It is also referred to as the Guiana chestnut because it produces characteristic edible fruits that taste like chestnuts. Fruits do not appear indoors as in nature pollination is done with the help of bats.
Leaves
Its leaves are palmate with a deep green color and consist of five lanceolate leaflets each. As it grows, its young and flexible trunks are braided before they become woody. Available in the market usually with 3 to 5 trunks.
Terrain
Soil with good drainage is needed as using heavy and clay soils there is a risk of root rot.
Position
It prefers indirect sunlight as if exposed directly to the sun it will cause burns on its leaves. It also thrives in places free of air currents and air conditioning.
Watering
Watering should be done with moderate frequency, first checking if the soil in the pot is dry. During the summer months it is good to spray the leaves with water to retain moisture and prevent them from drying out.
Pruning
No pruning needed. You can remove injured leaves.
Lubrication
It is fertilized once a month during the autumn-spring period. As a result, its foliage is maintained rich and robust. An ideal formulation is the water-soluble fertilizer for green plants.
Enemies and Diseases
It is rarely affected by diseases. Its most common enemy is the coccoids that cause cotton blight.
