The lagestremia is a deciduous shrub that can also grow into a tree. It has an upright growth that can reach 3-5 m in height and diameter. Its trunk is smooth with decorative value and its leaves are small and round which turn nice reddish shades in autumn.
Flowers
Its flowers are small with impressive colors and organized in botryoidal inflorescences that appear from July to September. The colors of the flowers that we can find are pink, purple, lilac, red and white.
Fruit
Its fruits are round prickly with a diameter of 2-4 cm.
Terrain
It grows satisfactorily in all types of soil, without particular problems. A necessary condition is that the soil has good drainage. It prefers sandy soils, rich in nutrients.
Position
Prefers sunny positions but can also tolerate partial shade. It also shows great resistance to high summer temperatures, as long as it has sufficient humidity.
Watering
It needs moderate watering about 2 times a week. But it needs larger amounts of water every 2-3 days mainly until it is installed in a garden or in periods of intense drought.
