Plant description
Ornamental cabbage is an annual winter herb. Ornamental cabbage is available in two colors, white and purple. It is not as tight as regular cabbage, as its leaves are lighter and end in a smooth or lacy edge. In spring it produces long stems at the top with many yellow small flowers. Ornamental cabbage is not eaten, but is used for ornamental use to give striking colors in the winter setting.
Developmental conditions - Care
Most suitable planting locations are in the sun for better growth. It needs well-drained soil, as it is not resistant to excessive moisture. It should be noted that the ornamental cabbage is very resistant to low temperatures.
Because the ornamental cabbage is planted at the time when the rains begin, it will need moderate watering, depending on the weather. Regarding fertilization, the addition of complete granular fertilizer or liquid fertilizer, once a month, is sufficient for its good growth. The lower leaves that begin to turn yellow should be removed. In mid-spring, the flower stalk develops, which means that the end of its biological cycle has come. We can let the ornamental cabbage germinate to sow again, otherwise we uproot it to plant the spring flowering plants.
Uses
The ornamental cabbage can be planted either individually in a pot or planter or many more in a row, in a flower bed to create a nice low border. This will cover the entire flower bed and the result will be unique. We can also play with colors or plant them in a row or in another formation.
Finally, we make wonderful combinations with other plants, such as having in the center the ornamental cabbage and around it primroses, cyclamen or calendula that bloom this season and enhance the multicolor of our garden.
