Forsythia

Forsythia is a deciduous shrub belonging to the Oleaceae family. It comes from East Asia. It blooms in early spring before its leaves unfold. Countless yellow flowers appear on its branches and along their entire length and it reaches 2,5 meters in height. Its flowering begins around February and March with bright yellow flowers. Its leaves appear later. They are long and narrow with a jagged border. Its fruit is a dry capsule containing several winged seeds. It is resistant to drought and survives frost and very low temperatures (-20°C).

Location: It grows satisfactorily in all types of soils, without particular problems. Prefers places with sun or moderate shade. In sunny places it grows better and produces more flowers.

Watering: It does not have high water requirements, except in the summer months when you can increase its watering.

Pruning: Pruning is recommended after the end of flowering. Young plants are not pruned. In adults we prune the shoots at 1/3 -1/2 of their length. A very active pruning will result in intense vegetation next year, but without flowering.
