Senecio

Senecio (Senecio mandraliscae) or commonly known blue senecio is a small shrub that reaches a height of 40 cm and a width of 60 to 80 cm. It belongs to the Asteraceae family. It comes from South Africa. It is a succulent plant with fleshy shoots of light blue-green color. It consists of many elongated, cylindrical leaves 8 to 15 cm long, 1 cm wide and 1 cm thick. Its leaves have a green-blue-grey color and a waxy texture. Its flowers are small and white. They grow at the tips of the shoots in erect corymboid inflorescences. Its flowering lasts from June to August.

Location

It thrives in bright and sunny places. A south-facing location will provide good sunlight. However, be careful not to put them in direct sunlight as bright light can cause the plants to turn yellow.

Watering

Water every 10-15 days during the growing season (late spring, summer, early autumn) and much less frequently in winter. The secret is to always let the soil dry between waterings.

Lubrication

Lubrication should be done during the growing season and stopped in winter. There are fertilizers on the market especially for cacti and succulents. Use a fertilizer that is high in potassium, as it strengthens cell structures and plant resistance to disease.

Durability

It is resistant to temperatures down to -6 ° C. It is highly resistant to drought, while it does not tolerate excessive moisture.

Enemies and diseases

The most common enemy of senekio is the mistake we make with watering it. Excessive moisture causes rot and fungal diseases, resulting in wilting and eventually rot of the plant.
