Common Name: Μαργαρίτα
Origin: South Africa

Daisy (Bellis perennis) is a low-growing perennial herbaceous flowering plant. There is of course the Wild Daisy or Anthemida (Anthemis chia) which we find in nature and is considered a weed. Margarita is used as a ground cover plant and is usually grown from seeds.

Leaves

Its leaves are pointed and broad with fluff.

Flowers

Its flowers are called pseudoflowers, i.e. modified inflorescences consisting of many sessile flowers with white rays and a yellow center. Each inflorescence is borne on a single leafless peduncle ranging in height from 5-15 cm.

Terrain

It grows satisfactorily in all types of soil, without particular problems. A necessary condition is that the soil has good drainage.

Position

Prefers sunny places protected from strong and hot wind. Ideal plant for planting near water.

Watering

It has significant requirements for watering. It is needed twice a week during the spring period and every two or three days during the summer period.

Lubrication

It is good to add fertilizer once a month, during the spring and summer, so that the plant can have rich and continuous flowering.

Durability

It cannot stand the cold, for this winter we put it in a sheltered area. Be careful with strong winds. It is suitable for planting in areas with intense atmospheric pollution. Withstands coastal areas.

Pruning

To be pruned strictly, at the end of autumn, after the end of its flowering, in order to maintain its spherical shape. It is also very important to remove all the withered flowers so that they can come out new.

Diseases and enemies

In general, it is quite resistant to diseases and insects. Occasionally there are small insects such as aphids or granules on the leaves and flowers.

In some cases the leaves of the plant show snail or locust bites, which do not cause a problem due to the fast growth rate of the plant.
