Ivy (Hedera helix) is an extremely robust, fast-growing plant with heart-shaped, shiny, dark green leaves. It has suction cups that enable it to penetrate various types of surfaces. There are varieties with small leaves (microleaf ivy) or two-color green-white.

Flowers

Its flowers are small, yellow-green in color and grow in spherical inflorescences. Its flowering period is from September to October.

Location

It needs warm and sunny places, protected from cold and strong wind. It can grow in various types of soil provided good drainage.

Durability

It is resistant to frost and low temperatures down to -20°C. Ideal plant for places with intense air pollution and drought.

Watering

It needs moderate amounts of watering, with limited to no watering in the winter and more regular watering in the warm periods of the year.

Pruning

No pruning needed. We only cut the shoots that bother or knit in unwanted places.

Lubrication

If planted in suitable soil, the fertilization requirements are low. It is enough to add granular fertilizer before spring and autumn to enhance its flowering.

Diseases and enemies

Its most frequent enemy is the meligra, which produces honeydew secretions on the leaves of the plant. This results in many ants on our plant. The diseases it shows are bacteriosis, carbonization and mildew.
