Latin Name: mentha spicata
Origin: Europe and Southwest Asia

Mint is a herbaceous aromatic plant. Doosmos is one of the most popular plants in Greek gardens and balconies. Its height is 30 to 50 cm. but it can reach in some cases even 80 cm.

It has beautiful and rich green foliage but what characterizes it is its wonderful, unique and peppery aroma. Mint leaves are green, oval in shape, its stems are square.

Flowers

Its flowers are small purple or blue. They come out many together in spikes at the tops of the shoots. It blooms from May to September.

Location

It grows satisfactorily in all types of soils, without particular problems. Prerequisite for the soil to be well drained. Prefers places with sun or moderate shade.

The best place for it to thrive is a shady or semi-shady location. It can also grow in very poor, dry and stony soils.

Durability

In winter it disappears and new vegetation appears in autumn. It is suitable for planting in areas with intense atmospheric pollution. Suitable for marine areas.

Watering

It needs moderate amounts of watering, with limited to no watering in the winter and more regular watering in the warm periods of the year.

Pruning

It is good to top the mint often in order to limit its lateral growth. Also, after the summer flowering of mint, it will need to be severely pruned to show strong growth again.

Lubrication

It is good to strengthen it regularly from spring to the end of summer.

Diseases and enemies

It is quite a resistant plant and is not easily affected by diseases and insects.

  • planting in pots for balconies, terraces.
  • It is used in pharmaceuticals.
