Common Name: Biform case
Origin: South Africa

Dimorphothecia or osteospermum is a perennial herbaceous flowering plant.

Flowers

The flowers of dimorphotheca have a variety of colors such as white, yellow, purple, pink and orange, and there are also many varieties of dimorphotheca with bicolor flowers. It blooms from spring to autumn.

Its flowers close in the shade or when it gets dark.

Terrain

It grows satisfactorily in all types of soil, without particular problems. A necessary condition is that the soil has good drainage.

Position

Prefers sunny places protected from strong and hot wind.

Watering

It needs frequent watering and adding fertilizer in spring and summer for continuous flowering. It has moderate to large demands on water, especially if it is in small pots.

Lubrication

Even its fertilization is important, especially in the spring and summer. It is good to add fertilizer once a month, so that the plant can have rich and continuous flowering.

Durability

It cannot stand the cold, for this winter we put it in a sheltered area. Be careful with strong winds. It is suitable for planting in areas with intense atmospheric pollution. Withstands coastal areas.

Pruning

The dimorphic box should be pruned strictly, in late autumn, after the end of its flowering. Due to its fast growth rate, it will soon give back rich vegetation and flowering. It is also very important to remove all the withered flowers so that they can come out new.

Diseases and enemies

It is a fairly resistant plant to disease and insect attacks. Small insects such as aphids or mealybugs are sometimes observed on the leaves and flowers.

In some cases the leaves of the plant show snail or locust bites, which do not cause a problem due to the fast growth rate of the plant.
