Aukuba is an evergreen shrub with a spherical shape that reaches 1,5-2 meters in height. Its leaves are quite impressive not only because of their serrated shape but also because of their bright green color which is enhanced by yellow spots. This species shows the female and male flowers in separate plants, so fruiting is observed only in female plants while the presence of the male plant in the garden helps in the fruiting of the female. The fruits that appear only in females are red, spherical and remain on the plant throughout the winter. Aukuba is ideal for shady areas of the garden, while it must be protected from wind currents.
