Mige, the plant with the unbeatable aroma!

The mige (Convallaria majalis) also known as "Tear of the Virgin" or "Lily of the Valley" is a herbaceous perennial plant that propagates by rhizomes. It stands out for its special appearance and its unique aroma. Its flowers are considered a symbol of happiness for this and we often find it in bridal bouquets. Its name is French (muguet) and in France on May Day it is offered as a symbol of good luck and affection.

Description

It is a plant with broad and lanceolate leaves and white flowers (rarely pink) joined at their base forming bells. Flowering begins in late spring. Flowering is followed by the production of red fruits in a spherical shape.

Care

  • Prefers fertile, moist and well-drained soils.
  • Planting in pots should be accompanied by regular additions of fertilizer for lush flowering.
  • Prefers shady or semi-shady places.
  • It has moderate watering requirements.
  • It has extremely high resistance to cold.

Uses

Perfume: In 1956 the French company Dior produced a fragrance that mimics the scent of mige, which was Christian Dior's favorite flower. Diorissimo was designed by Edmond Roudnitska.

Bouquets: Mige is used in bridal bouquets. With its special appearance and rich aroma, it is one of the options for a dreamy and unforgettable bouquet.

Quackery: Mige has been used in folk medicine for centuries. It is said that "it comforts the heart and strengthens the memory". There is no scientific evidence that mige has effective medicinal uses in the treatment of human diseases.
