Perovskia, the blue aromatic shrub!

Perovskia, Aionovios, Blue

Perovskia (Perovskia atriplicifolia) is a deciduous perennial shrub. It belongs to the Lamiaceae family. It comes from southwest and central Asia. It is aromatic and its scent is described as sage or a blend of sage and lavender.

Description

It is a shrubby plant with a height that reaches 1 - 1,5 meters. Its width can reach up to 1 meter in area. Its foliage is formed by small gray-green leaves, with a characteristic herbal aroma. Its numerous, tiny flowers appear from July until mid-autumn. Painted in stunning shades between purple-blue and lavender, they are a great choice for those who want an easy, long-lasting flowering plant in their garden. Its stems are square in cross section and covered by small hairs. In autumn, the hairs give the stems a silvery appearance.

Care

. Location: Prefers bright and sunny places but can also grow in semi-shady places. Greater flowering is achieved in full sunshine, while in shady places the foliage will look less compact creating gaps.

. Watering: It does not have high demands on water. It needs moderate watering, except in the summer months when you can increase its watering.

. Pruning: A strict pruning, in early spring, is enough to maintain its beautiful shape and size but also to improve the appearance of the foliage.
