Plant description

Dracaena is an ideal plant for both our home and our office, as it is one of the plants that easily survives indoors even when the conditions are not ideal. It is one of the plants used very often in compositions. It comes from Madagascar, while some of its many other varieties from tropical Africa or Guinea. There are many varieties of dracaena such as dracaena margins perhaps the best known, the dracaena fragrance, the dragon fruit lemon lime and dracaena massangeana which have yellow-green leaves, as well as dracaena deremensis and janet craig. Dracaena is an impressive arboreal plant with relatively slow growth that can reach a height of 1-2 meters. It has a strong gray trunk with long lanceolate leaves that slope down and vary depending on the type of dracaena we choose.

Development conditions

The classic dracaena can be easily adapted to the conditions prevailing on our verandas, but it does not withstand the cold. That is why it is mainly an indoor plant. Suitable temperatures for the dracaena to grow are between 16-25 ° C. Dracaena need enough light, but not directly because it will burn the leaves. It is good to keep the dracaena away from heat sources, such as fireplaces and radiators, as well as from the cold currents of air conditioners during the summer.

Care

Dracaena needs a little water but watering should be regular, but the soil should be dry enough until the next watering. Their soil should be light, with a high content of peat and have good drainage. If we do not water it enough, we will notice dries on the edges of the leaves which indicate that our plant needs more water.

If the dracaena leaves turn yellow, it means that it is receiving excessive watering. Fertilization should be done with liquid fertilizer during the growing season (spring and autumn) and not at all during the winter months. When our plant almost does not fit in the pot then it is time to transplant it into a slightly larger pot using peat soil and pumice at the bottom for good drainage.

And one last thing about Dracaena…

It is considered one of the plants that cleans the atmosphere, because it absorbs toxic substances such as heavy metals and creates a healthier environment for us to breathe. Also according to feng shui the dragon will fill our space with positive energy!
