Jasmine or jasmine (in Latin Jasminum) is a genus of angiosperms, dicotyledonous plants which belongs to the family of Oleaceae. There are about 300 species found in temperate and warm countries of the earth. It is a climbing shrub, usually evergreen, but there are also deciduous species. Its leaves are alternate simple or trifoliate and winged. The flowers are white in most species but also yellow, white-pink, pink, blue and blue. They are fragrant and give off a sweet, very pleasant aroma. The jasmine fruit is a rail with 2 pods. It is an ornamental plant and is grown in pots and gardens.

1. Jasmine shrub (Jasminum fruticans). It is native to Greece in the Mediterranean region and in western Asia. It is an evergreen shrub that reaches a height of 2 meters. It has yellow flowers and are located at the tops of the branches which are quite hard and fragile.
2. Jasmine the medicinal (Jasminum officinale). Shrub with upright, smooth and dismantled stem. It originates from Iran and the Himalayas and is highly resistant to cold. There are various forms with double flowers. Jasmine medicinal is the main source of jasmine oil. The essential oil of the flowers of this species was also obtained in antiquity by sprinkling with the help of sesame oil and was called jasmine.
3. Jasmine the size (Jasmine grandiflorum). Shrub of Asian origin, his homeland is considered Malaysia where it used to be used in celebrations and ceremonies. In Greece it is also known as jasmine Chian. Very good quality oriental type pipes are made from its wood.
4. Jasmine Arabic (Bougainvillea ή bean) (jasminum sambac). Climbing shrub that reaches great heights. Its branches form many corners and its leaves are large with ribs. Its flowers are large, white with an exceptional aroma. It is cultivated as an ornamental and for the preparation of the excellent homonymous aroma and essential oil.
There is a form of it with double flowers, but less fragrant than its other forms, it is called Granduca (Grand Duke of Tuscany, Ital. Granduca in Tuscany) whose flowers are used in aromatic tea.
5. Jasmine the polyanth (Jasminum polyanthum). Evergreen, climbing shrub native to China. Its flowers are mostly white, but red and pink are also found.
