Avocado is a very nutritious and delicious fruit whether it is a salad, guacamole sauce or plain! It is a key ingredient in a nutritious and tasty diet. Try growing an avocado tree in your home if you do not like to go to the grocery store every now and then to get fresh food every day or if you can not find organic or if you do not want to spend big on quality products. It's very easy. See how you can get an avocado tree from a small seed…

Procedure

- First, carefully remove the stone from the avocado (without hurting it), and then clean it well. We do not remove the brown layer from the seed because it is the cover of the seed.

- The stone is not completely round. Everything has its ups and downs. The roots will come out from the bottom and the stem from the top. You can easily distinguish the sides, since the slightly sharper edge is the top and the wider the bottom. The pointed edge is the upper side and the widest edge is the lower. ——- Take 3 or 4 toothpicks and pierce the stone in a slightly downward direction, at equal distances from each other around the circumference of the stone. These toothpicks act as a support for the bottom to stand in the water, so we have to insert them deep into the stone in a downward direction, so that when we put it in the glass, most of it is in the water.

Alternative method without toothpick: Using a very sharp knife, cut a thin section from the top and bottom of the seed, as this will significantly speed up the germination. Then wrap it in a very damp absorbent paper or cloth. Place it on a covered plate and leave it in a dark place for 2-4 weeks. The root generally grows first. When the root is about 7 cm long, proceed to transplanting.

- Place the stone half submerged in a glass of water in front of a quiet window with sunshine. A clear glass helps so that we can easily see when the roots will come out and to know when we need to change the water.

- We change the water every five days for about a week. The water must be changed to avoid mold, bacteria and fungi. We do not let the stone dry and remain unsinkable. Add water if the level drops.

This process, until it germinates, lasts about 8-9 weeks!

The top of the seed will dry out, a slit will form, and the outer layer of seed will be discarded. The slit will extend to the bottom and a tiny root will begin to appear.

- The rhizome will grow and may branch, and eventually a small shoot will emerge from the top of the seed.

- Transplant it in soil when the tree is over 20 cm high. In about 6-7 months from the time it sprouts.

- Choose a pot with a diameter of about 20 cm, in soil rich in ingredients, leaving the upper half of the seed to protrude.

Ideal Location - Care

We place it in a sunny window as the avocado loves the sun. We water frequently with constant impregnations. The soil should be constantly moist but not saturated. The yellowed leaves are a sign of excessive watering, in this case, let the soil dry for a few days. If we live in an area where the temperature drops below zero in winter, we should put them indoors, for autumn and winter, before the temperature even drops.
