Well known to all of us and especially popular for its intoxicating aroma. Although we see it very often in our country, it comes from tropical areas, mainly from Central America. The Night flower it is often called "Queen of the Night" or "Jasmine of the Night" even though it has nothing to do with our familiar jasmine.
Plant description
It is a shrub, with glossy and large green leaves. It blooms from late spring to autumn. Its flowers are not particularly impressive in appearance, but their value is in their sweet aroma, which is particularly intense. Its flowers open in the late afternoon until dusk (between 16:00 and 20:00).
The flowers are not formed from petals but from a modified and colored calyx, which has taken the shape of a funnel. Accordingly, the "calyx" consists of modified bracts.
Plant care
Terrain
It grows satisfactorily in all types of soil, without particular problems. A necessary condition is that the soil has good drainage.
Position
The evening primrose is placed in sunny and semi-shady places, in the garden and on the terrace. But when the temperatures are high in the summer, the plants should be moved to places without direct sunlight as they cause burns that appear as drying on the edges of the leaves.
Watering
It does not have high water requirements, except in the summer months when you can increase its watering.
Lubrication
It does not have high nutrient requirements. It is good to apply a preparation in liquid form for immediate results in early spring and late summer.
Durability
It cannot stand the cold, for this winter we put it in a sheltered area. Be careful with strong winds. It is suitable for planting in areas with intense atmospheric pollution. Withstands coastal areas.
Pruning
Evening primrose is pruned in early spring just before flowering begins or in autumn when it has finished. Formative pruning is done to maintain the desired size and shape.
Diseases and enemies
They show great resistance to entomological and fungal diseases and usually during the time they remain in the garden they do not need special treatment.

The strong "intoxicating" smell that the night flower emits can become a little annoying when we sit very close to the plant. That is why we must choose to plant our night flower at a relatively satisfactory distance from the place where we usually sit on our balcony or garden. This way we will enjoy its aroma without it 'choking' us.
