Plant Description

The Tapien is a variety of verbena, but its colorful and numerous flowers set it apart from other varieties of verbena plants, producing a profusion of colorful flowers on compact, tightly packed foliage.

Its excellent behavior in the weather conditions ensures that it will be in bloom all summer, but also in autumn, making it a very good plant for main planting in an area or also for planting with other plants. Tapien is a perennial creeper that also erupts and grows relatively quickly. It reaches a height of 30-40cm. Creates flowers from mid-spring to early winter if the temperatures are high and there is sunshine. There are shades of pink, blue and purple.

Cultivation Care

Terrain

It grows satisfactorily in all types of soil, without particular problems. A necessary condition is that the soil has good drainage.

Position

Prefers positions with sun or moderate shade. In sunny locations it grows better and produces more flowers.

Watering

Tapien is drought tolerant, so water only when the soil is dry.

Lubrication

Even its fertilization is important, especially in the period of spring and summer. It is good to add fertilizer once a month, so that the plant can have abundant and continuous flowering.

Durability

In winter it withstands up to -4°C, while in spring it does not face any problems. Be careful with strong winds. It is suitable for planting in areas with intense atmospheric pollution. Withstands coastal areas.

Pruning

We need to remove the wilted flowers to maintain their vitality and have prolonged flowering. In mid-summer, when the first flowering is complete, we top (cut the tip of the shoots between the flowers) to encourage new growth, and create denser plants with abundant flowering.

Diseases and Enemies

Tapien is resistant to pests and diseases. Most problems are related to mistakes made in his care. Care must be taken in watering to avoid rotting of its roots and withering of the flowers.

It can develop botrytis and powdery mildew, which are effectively treated with sprays.

Uses of the plant

Generally, because of the shape of this plant it is used more as a ground cover plant and in rock gardens. However, it can also be placed in flower beds, sitting pots and hanging ones.
